Mark L. Gold: Mr. Gold is the founder of NewMark Capital, a registered investment advisor and the managing partner and co-founder of HillMark Capital, a registered investment advisor. HillMark and NewMark is a private asset management firm specializing in the below investment grade sector. Prior to HillMark, Mr. Gold was a managing director of Trust Company of the West (“TCW”) and partner in the firms Leveraged Finance Group which included, bank debt, subordinated financing, mezzanine debt and distressed debt investing. He was responsible for building and managing the firms Senior Loan and Bank Debt Group. Mr. Gold has a long history in leveraged and structured finance and has been responsible for designing and or managing numerous innovative structures including one of the first Collateralized Loan Obligation funds ROSA B.V. (1990) several “rated equity” securitizations (SEQUILS/MINCS, Chase CSLT), and the first Pro Rata Loan Fund. Mark has been frequently quoted in industry trade journals, Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Business Week. He has been a guest speaker at numerous industry conferences on leveraged finance, securitization and structured finance. From 1989 to April 1993, Mr. Gold was the portfolio manager responsible for organizing and managing Chancellor Senior Secured Management’s (formerly Citicorp Investment Management) bank loan group. In this capacity, he was responsible for the management of over $1.6 billion in bank loans and senior secured debt. Previously, he was a portfolio manager at Chancellor, responsible for the management of portfolios that invested in high yield bonds, private placements and mezzanine transactions. During his career in portfolio management, Mr. Gold has been actively involved in all aspects of leveraged investing in a wide range of industries and in the development of leveraged investing programs for a broad group of institutional investors. From 1979 to 1983, Mr. Gold was an investment banker in the Mergers and Acquisitions group of Morgan Stanley and then Blyth Eastman Paine Webber. Prior thereto, he was with Hoffmann-LaRoche initially in pharmaceutical research and then in medical diagnostic product marketing. Mr. Gold received his M.B.A. from New York University in 1981 and his B.A./M.A. from Queens College in 1974.
